  1. Hi Andrew,I enjoyed rndeiag your post, and it certainly is timely with the first pitch of the 2013 MLB season being thrown last night during the Texas/Houston game. As for me, while I understand the interactive elements to sports that digital technology now accords us, being a purist (or traditionalist) I find them to be a bit too distractive and that they take away from the essence of the sport itself, be it baseball or any other professional sport. I certainly understand the lure experienced by those who engage in the Fan Cave-type interaction environments, but I really can’t understand how it adds to the enjoyment of the game, but hey, that’s me; heck, I’m not even a fantasy league participant, despite being one of the most die-hard sports fanatics you will ever come across. Your post was excellent in many regards, particularly how it brought to our attention the role statistics play from the fans’ perspective. For me, though, just give me the game, and I’ll find enjoyment in it the old fashioned way – by watching it.Thanks for the blog post; I really liked it.Al
