The first UN person to be sanctioned by the U.S. is Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967. The U.S. sanctioned her for engaging with the International Criminal Court (ICC) in its investigations related to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, particularly for her report urging international action against companies funding the war.
